Modern and Welcoming Space
The Ampersand, owned by Aspen Properties, is the biggest privately-owned complex in downtown Calgary. It is made up of three 28-storey buildings, totaling over 1.1 million square feet! Formerly known as Sun Life Plaza, this complex recently underwent a three-phase 25-million-dollar renovation that added multiple amenities, including a fitness centre, a conference centre, a marketplace, indoor food trucks, and more.
When Aspen Properties bought the Ampersand in 2018, they envisioned creating a modern and welcoming space in the atrium that connects the complex’s three buildings. Having worked with us before on video walls for the Edison building and the Calgary Tower, they knew they could count on us to liven up their space. This time, they wanted an impressive solution that consisted of multiple video walls dispersed throughout the room.
Matrix designed, supplied, and installed five video walls in the Ampersand’s ground-level atrium. Combined with the modern architecture and tons of natural light, these visual additions help elevate the space even further, making it a truly inviting entrance.
To complete this project, we used NEC direct view LED panels. These panels were chosen because of their consistent brightness. When surrounded by natural light, the image quality of other display monitors may look faded, but NEC’s dvLED technology ensures a reliable picture quality no matter the amount of light in the room.
Each video wall is made up of dvLED modules of varying sizes, one of which even folds into a corner without compromising the image quality. These LED panels are used to display a mixture of virtual art and important building information.
Matrix has completed multiple projects for Aspen Properties. Throughout these projects, we have proved that they can rely on our professionalism and our knowledge of technology, which has cultivated a relationship built on trust.
