VIDEO WALL CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORY

Captivating Virtual Art

Aspen Properties is a privately owned real estate company that was first created in Calgary, Alberta in 1998. They now own and manage 14 downtown office buildings located in Calgary and Edmonton, which span approximately 3.8 million square feet of property, as well as close to 3,500 downtown parking spaces. Their buildings are known for being contemporary, accommodating workplaces, and many of their buildings are equipped with recreation facilities to ensure people actually enjoy going to work. For example, one of their buildings—the Edison—contains a basketball area, a fitness centre, an outdoor dog park, a golf simulator, a books & board game lounge, and more!

THE CHALLENGE

When Aspen Properties moved into the Edison in the heart of the downtown core, their vision was clear—cultivate connections and spark creativity. They approached Matrix looking for unique ideas for their beautiful new lobby. While they originally planned for a leather-covered, floor-to-ceiling art piece behind their reception desk, we proposed using a unique video wall that grants artistic creativity.

THE SOLUTION

For this project, Matrix designed, supplied, and installed a video wall, which is used to display virtual art. We also provided a software that drives content to the wall. To ensure the wall could be used as effectively as possible, we trained the end users on how to use the software themselves.

This project included the following components: NEC monitors as well as Userful players and software.

The video wall is comprised of sixteen 55” NEC monitors with ultra-thin bezels. With the Userful players and software, Aspen Properties can control and change their image and video content whenever they so choose. This unlimited capacity to change backgrounds bridges their love of art and their need for innovation, making it a much more striking centerpiece than a static, although probably beautiful, art piece. With the ability to change content as often as desired, we were also able to bring in different sources, including live video, which has transformed the lobby into a true gathering space!

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

This video wall installation began a partnership with Aspen Properties. They have since contacted Matrix for numerous other projects throughout Alberta, including the immersive theatre room in the Calgary Tower.
