LED Upgrade for Scurfield Wall

The University of Calgary is one of two public universities and one of five post-secondary institutions in Calgary, Alberta. It was originally the Calgary campus of the University of Alberta, but it eventually became its own, individual university in 1966. The University provides its students with 250 different programs, offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees. As a research university, it has over 85 research institutes and centres as well as 14 different faculties. One of these faculties is the Haskayne School of Business, which was established in 1967. This school is one of the leading business schools in Canada.

THE CHALLENGE

The University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business needed an upgrade for their aging 3x3 video wall. Since this wall was in a public space where students constantly passed by, the individual displays were getting damaged over time. They reached out to Matrix to provide a replacement solution that could be used in the same way without damaging as easily as a result of the endless rush of students.

THE SOLUTION

Matrix reviewed the requirements for this project and supplied the perfect solution. We designed and installed an upgraded video wall that fit into the designated space where the previous video wall had been.

This solution was composed of a Leyard DirectLight screen with a special ERO coating.

The DirectLight LED screen has a pixel pitch of 1.5mm. For longevity, we opted to go with the ERO version of the LED. The ERO coating is a proprietary coating that protects and ruggedizes the Planar fine-pitch LED display surfaces to ensure the installation remains as good as new for as long as possible no matter how many people brush by the screen.
