Mobile Production Studio

Baseball Club

In a city of 84,000 The Lethbridge Bulls Baseball club are a popular attraction. The team made up of players from across Canada & the US have a dedicated following.  So much so that the City of Lethbridge decided it was time to expand the product by purchasing a Video production Centre so they could not only broadcast in house, but stream the Bulls games to the web.

Through a contract with the Lethbridge Bulls baseball organization and the City of Lethbridge, Feature Productions recently contracted the services of Matrix Video Communications to build a fully functional mobile video production system. "Having done this before, we knew what we wanted and what we didn't want" said Chris Cooke, Chief Marketing Officer at Feature Productions, "Our demands were both extensive and specific and Matrix delivered on all accounts."

While the needs for the video production gear were specific to live baseball production, the system also had to fulfill Feature Productions' requirements for seminar-style events, concerts and other sporting events. "We needed to have a system that allowed us to get in and out of venues quickly and easily while still packing all the punch of a larger system," said Cooke.

After some careful research and understanding of all the needs of the productions, Matrix's team configured a system based around Newtek's Tricaster 855 switcher as the heart of the unit. Also included was a AJA KiPro Rack recorder, along with AJA video converters and Kramer DA's.  Intercom was supplied by Anchor Audio, and Sony EX3 camera's completed the package.  Earle Nichol from Matrix was the lead on the project…" there were many things to consider, most of all I wanted the unit to be able to be setup in 20 minutes, ready to go! With a custom-made case that had space very tightly configured everything is easily accessible and workflow orientated to give the operators a confident production. But the best thing was the Matrix team contributed many ideas to make this a very efficient system…it was a great group effort!"

Most of Feature Productions' events are also streamed live to online audiences. Cooke says, "All of these requirements needed to be taken into account when building this system, and Matrix did an outstanding job."
